Contribution to the work of the IMI Award 2024

Congratulations to the Contribution to the Work of the IMI Award winner: Gus Macpherson

Gus Macpherson has been involved with the training and qualification of apprentices, technicians, and mangers throughout the UK since starting work in 1985. He has been involved with the training & development of technicians from Fast Fit suppliers and independent garages over almost 40 years in which the bulk of them have involved IMI qualifications.

Gus has worked directly with the IMI for over 30 years and been a member for 15 years. He started being involved with the IMI whilst working as a Technical Instructor at Toyota GB putting together the Refrigerant Handler qualification in conjunction with Toyota and the IMI.

After Toyota & Lexus Gus spent time with Delphi training on Air Conditioning, Parts Advisor IMI qualifications and time with ProAuto training with the Citroen & Peugeot IMI technician qualifications and training at colleges and independent garages throughout the UK. After ProAuto training Gus joined Dingbro Ltd as the Training & Development Manager. This was a new role set up by the company with a view to increasing the skillset of our staff and providing training to help individuals advance their careers. Gus implemented the IMI Parts Adviser qualifications for all company parts advisors. Gus also reintroduced the IMI Apprentice Parts Advisor qualification for all our apprentices which has been over 200 to date.

In his time at Dingbro, Gus has expanded the list of IMI qualifications offered and has consistently raised the profile of the IMI and encouraged colleagues to sign up for membership. His work has helped us develop many automotive careers, which is good news for the whole industry.
