Apprenticeship Frameworks

Apprenticeship frameworks across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland allow learners to gain the knowledge and skills required to work safely and competently in the automotive sector. The IMI is a contracted delivery partner for the development and maintenance of these frameworks, working with automotive stakeholders to ensure they are relevant and complete.

For nation specific information, see the tabs below.

Due to government reforms around apprenticeships in England, apprenticeship frameworks have been replaced by Apprenticeship Standards. For Apprenticeships in England please see Apprenticeships & EPA.

Reminder from ESFA: Apprenticeship Frameworks require completion and certification by 31 March 2025 (England Only)

The Department for Education (DfE) will stop funding for apprenticeship framework completion and certification on Monday 31 March 2025:

  • Apprentices on frameworks will not be able to receive a certificate after this date, including those that have been on a learning break.
  • You should withdraw any apprentices still on a framework unless they will complete their apprenticeship and be certified before Monday 31 March 2025.

Action: Training providers with learners still on apprenticeship frameworks must:

  • Make sure the employer and apprentice understand that there will be no opportunity to get their certificate after 31 March 2025.
  • Withdraw learners who will not complete before this date.

If learning is not going to be completed, providers can speak with the employer and apprentice to see if there is a suitable apprenticeship standard. This will need to comply with the apprenticeship funding rules, including on recognising prior learning and the minimum duration. Guidance on searching for apprenticeship standards is available.
