  • What is the IMI Professional Register?

    The IMI Professional Register lists individual members and their place of work. These members have been recognised for their achievements, experience, professionalism and commitment to a Professional Standard of behaviours, and for keeping their knowledge and skills up to date through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

  • How can I join?

    The IMI Professional Register is open to IMI members at associate grade and above and individuals that hold a valid achievement.

  • What do post-nominals mean?

    When searching for an individual within the IMI Professional Register, you will notice a series of letters listed next to the individual’s name; these are post-nominals and they identify people’s skills and experience in industry via their membership level.

    FIMI - Fellow member of the IMI
    MIMI - Member of the IMI
    AMIMI - Associate member of the IMI
    CAE - Certificated Automotive Engineer
    AAE - Advanced Automotive Engineer
    CAT - Certificated Automotive Trainer
    CAA - Certificated Automotive Assessor
    AAT - Advanced Automotive Trainer
    AdAA - Advanced Automotive Assessor

  • Can I gain additional recognition?

    Are you a member of the IMI and eligible for any additional recognitions? Why not have additional post nominals with IMI engineering awards and trainer assessor awards reflected in the professional register to get the recognition you deserve. These routes are detailed below:

    Certificated Automotive Engineer (CAE) – can be awarded if you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive and evidence of a level 3 approved qualification or an IMI Accreditation.

    Advanced Automotive Engineer (AAE) - can be awarded if you have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive or have held a CAE qualification for 2 years with evidence of a level 4 approved qualification or an IMI Automotive Technician Accreditation.

    Certificated Automotive Trainer (CAT) – can be awarded if you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive, evidence of a level 3 teaching qualification, evidence of a level 3 subject knowledge qualification and you are involved in delivering training for at least 24 days per year.

    Certificated Automotive Assessor (CAA) – can be awarded if you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive, evidence of a level 3 assessing qualification, evidence of a level 3 subject knowledge qualification and you are involved in assessing individuals for at least 24 days per year.

    Advanced Automotive Trainer (AAT) - can be awarded if you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive, evidence of a level 4 teaching qualification, evidence of a level 4 subject knowledge qualification, be involved in delivering training for at least 24 days per year and can share a case study which demonstrates your ability and understanding to plan and deliver effective training solutions for employers.

    Advance Automotive Assessor (AdAA) – can be awarded if you have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in automotive, evidence of a level 4 assessing qualification, evidence of a level 4 subject knowledge qualification, be involved in assessing individuals for at least 24 days per year and can share a case study which demonstrates your ability and understanding to develop and improve the skills of assessors to support the delivery of effective training solutions for employers.

  • How are these professionals monitored?

    To maintain your status on the IMI Professional Register, you are required to give evidence of continued learning and development activities, with a minimum of 90 CPD credits over a 3 year period.
