Breaking Barriers with Nic Hamilton

In this episode of Insights by IMI, we sit down with British racing driver and EVTEC ambassador Nic Hamilton who shares his motorsport journey, highlighting determination, accessibility challenges, and inclusion shaping automotive’s future.

Nic Hamilton

Diagnosed at 18 months old with a condition that doctors believed would prevent him from walking and would progressively impair his eyesight, Nicolas has spent his life defying expectations. In 2011, Nicolas began competing, racing in the highly competitive Renault Clio Cup, marking his first step into motorsport with no prior racing experience. His dedication quickly proved that disability is no barrier to elite performance.

In 2015, he became the first disabled driver to compete in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), making history in one of the UK’s most prestigious racing series. Since then, he has continued to break records — securing his first BTCC points finish in 2020 and achieving a career-best P6 finish at Donington Park in 2023.

From wheelchair user to BTCC history-maker, Nicolas’ journey is a powerful example of resilience, ambition and redefining what is possible in elite motorsport.
