How Valeo is supporting technicians with new technology in the aftermarket.

Advertorial: As the motor industry constantly strives to improve fuel efficiency and reduce vehicle emissions, dual clutch technology has become more commonplace. It has now become more prevalent in the automotive aftermarket. Often mistaken for an automatic transmission, due to the two pedals inside the vehicle, a lot of dual clutch repairs are unnecessarily sent to dealerships or specialists.

Dual clutch technology allows for virtually no torque interruption whilst driving. The system has two clutch plates independently operating different gears within the gearbox. One clutch operates the odd gears the other operates the even gears. With this setup it allows the gearbox to pre-select the next gear whilst simultaneously having the current gear selected. The preselection of the next required gear means the selection time is almost instantaneous. The clutch selection is operated via an electric actuator and utilises brushless DC motors in order to quickly select the relevant clutch.

With torque interruption at a minimum this not only improves fuel efficiency it also allows the driver to enjoy a smooth comfortable driving experience.
