Problems fixed: Audi, Citroën and Vauxhall

Audi A4

Leading technical supplier Autodata helps you fix three common problems found in passenger cars

The problem

A customer’s 2019 Audi A4 is exhibiting a squeaking or rumbling noise from the front of the vehicle. We’ve replicated the issue in the workshop but are unsure what the cause might be.

The fix

A similar issue affects A4s, including quattros and allroads from 2015. The cause is likely to be the front shock absorber bump stop, which is not correctly seated. To resolve the issue, press the front shock absorber bump stop down into the shock absorber. If the front shock absorber bump stop is deformed or damaged, renew the bump stop. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

The problem

We are working on a Citroën Relay/Jumper III with a puzzling issue. The engine stalled while driving, with hazard warning lamps activating. The engine doesn’t restart. There are trouble codes stored in the engine control module fault memory: P0627 and P1505. These seem to pertain to Fuel Pump A and the Idle Speed Control Actuator. How would we go about resolving this issue?

The fix

This issue affects all Relay/Jumper III from 2014 with an inertia fuel shut-off (IFS) switch. The issue is the IFS switch is activated or faulty. To resolve the issue, fit a new IFS switch, located in the right-hand footwell and erase trouble codes.

The problem

We are investigating a Vauxhall Combo-e with a knocking noise from the front of the vehicle. The owner described it as intermittent – in the workshop we have determined it happens when driving forward after reversing – specifically when braking.

The fix

This issue is known to affect Combo-e’s manufactured in 2018 or 2019, and is noticeable when braking after changing direction (reverse to forward). The cause is movement between the front brake pads and the brake caliper. To resolve, first remove the front brake pads, check the front brake pads for excessive wear and replace if necessary. Apply a light coating of brake grease to the rear of the brake pads. Refit the front brake pads.
