Kia Engine

In this article: Leading technical supplier Autodata helps you fix three common problems found in passenger cars

The problem

A customer is complaining that their 2016 Kia Sportage 1.6 T-GDi has an engine misfire. The vehicle's engine malfunction indicator lamp is illuminated and several misfire related trouble codes have been stored in the engine control module fault memory. We have carried out some basic wiring checks and replaced the spark plugs but the fault is still there. Have you come across misfire faults on this model before?

The fix

The engine misfire is due to an unsatisfactory design of the dual mass flywheel. Inspect the production date code, if its date code is before MLE, fit a new dual mass flywheel. Erase trouble codes. Carry out a road test to ensure the fault has been rectified.

The problem

A service customer of ours is experiencing an issue with their 2016 Ford Transit 2.0 diesel. The engine malfunction indicator lamp is illuminated and the message centre displays 'AdBlue Sys malfunction'. There are various trouble codes stored in the engine control module fault memory that relate to the turbocharger system. We have visually checked the intake system for air leaks but have not found the cause of the fault.

The fix

We suspect the cause of the fault is due to broken wire(s) at the turbocharger vane position actuator harness multi-plug. Fit a modified harness multi-plug using a repair kit available from the Ford parts department. Erase trouble codes and carry out a road test to ensure the fault has been rectified.

The problem

A customer's 2015 Peugeot 3008 1.2 is making a knocking noise from the engine compartment when pulling away. We have heard it on a road test and have checked the condition of the engine mountings in the workshop, but haven't managed to pinpoint where the knocking noise is originating from.

The fix

This affects 3008 models with the EB2DTS engine code. The fault is likely to be due to insufficient tension of the turbocharger wastegate regulating valve control rod retaining clip. Fit a modified turbocharger wastegate regulating valve control rod retaining clip. Erase the trouble codes and carry out a road test to make sure the fault has been resolved.
