And they’re off: IMI Skills Competitions 2022

It’s started. The IMI Skills Competitions 2022 heads across the country in May and June searching for the best apprentices in the industry at the National Qualifier events.

This year is set to be the best yet with competitors representing the huge diversity in the industry with more nominations directly from employers and no cold spots across the UK. Even better, to highlight that automotive is an industry with opportunities for all, 14.4% of nominees have a disability, and 10.2% are female. Representation makes us stronger (watch Skills Competition Diversity Champion, Richard Hutchins explain why).

Countrywide

Across four specialisms; Automotive Technology, Automotive Body Repair, Automotive Refinishing, and Heavy Vehicle Technology, the judges are looking for the future of automotive excellence, and they’re casting their net across the UK.

The National Qualifiers are taking place on the:

May 11th - 13th: Refinishing at 3M, Atherstone
May 18th - 20th: Heavy Vehicle Technology at MAN Truck and Bus, Swindon
June 8th - 10th: Body Repair at FMG, Goole
June 20th - 24th: Light Vehicle Technology at Henry Ford Academy, Daventry

Top scorers from the events will be invited to the live final in November where they’ll have to complete six practical tasks in order to come out on top and win gold…
…and move on to World Skills International.

The IMI Skills Competitions set out to identify the most talented young apprentices working in automotive. Run annually, the competition is designed to raise standards, esteem and levels of expertise in technical skills across its four streams of competition.
