IMI reaction to Government investment in Electric vehicle infrastructure to promote ULVs

"The government is rightly focusing on promoting electric cars to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in cities. At the same time it must urgently address the skills required to keep these vehicles on the road, safely and affordably for consumers, if it is to meet its target of every new car being electric in 2040.  There are currently only 1,000 people in the UK qualified to work on electric and hybrid vehicles, by 2020 we will need 50,000 or more."

"A licence to practise for technicians who will work on hybrid and electric cars will provide the impetus for business's to invest in these skills and it will reassure car buyers that electric cars a the right choice for them."
