IMI receives strong response to free online CPD courses
Automotive industry body helps professionals maintain skills during coronavirus down-time
Recognising the concern amongst industry professionals that their skills may be impacted during the coronavirus down-time, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has recently promoted a series of free online CPD courses for its members. In less than 24 hours, over 200 professionals signed up to the courses, underlining the commitment and focus automotive workers have despite being unable to do their ‘day job’.
“We have been communicating with our members, and the wider industry, to keep them informed about the initiatives the IMI is taking on their behalf, as well as asking for their feedback and insight into what support they need”, explained Steve Nash, CEO, the Institute of the Motor Industry. “Of course, for many people in the sector, assistance in understanding about their employment rights during this difficult time has been a key issue. And our teams of HR, financial and legal experts are providing valuable insight – accessible from our COVID-19 hub – to help address these concerns.
“But what has also come across loud and clear is that our members want to ensure they are making use of down-time to maintain or even improve their skills. In just one day of promoting our free online CPD courses, we received over 200 registrations. It’s heartening - although personally not surprising – to see how determined automotive professionals are to ensure they can maintain their skills ready for when motorists are able to leave their homes and, inevitably, will need their vehicles to be serviced or MOT’d. And for some drivers, they will be ready to make their next purchasing decision as soon as the showrooms are open again. Indeed, the response to our free EV online courses has been particularly strong, suggesting that motor industry professionals are looking to the future and the growing move towards electric motoring.”
