It’s IMI Skills Competition time – get your nominations in!

The search for the automotive industry’s rising stars has started. This year’s IMI Skills Competition is open and we want you to nominate the apprentices and students who are helping push the industry into the future.

The sector succeeds because of the talent that helps drive it forward and we want to shine a light on the rising stars coming into the sector and inspire the next generation to join the industry. 

The pandemic has had a huge impact and it’s been a tough time for new talent; young people under 25 have been some of the hardest hit in the pandemic for redundancies and furlough, but many have kept learning. It’s more important than ever that new talent in our sector is celebrated.

The IMI Skills Competition is an opportunity to showcase their flair and ability across four different fields: Automotive Technology, Automotive Body Repair, Automotive Refinishing and Heavy Vehicle Technology.

We really want employers and FE colleges to look at their cohort of students and apprentices who have done such an amazing job in the last year and give them the opportunity to continue learning and develop their skills.

Entry is free and doesn’t require any face to face interaction in the early stages. Nominees will complete a short multiple-choice quiz and top scorers will be invited to sit an online knowledge test in the National Qualifiers which will take place between May and July. It’s all done remotely, so can be completed anywhere to keep it simple. 

The top six competitors in each skill area will then be invited to the practical Live Finals in November. This is a WorldSkills UK competition which could lead to a place in Team UK for the WorldSkills International competition.

So, employers and FE Colleges, get those nominations in and let’s celebrate the amazing young talent in the industry.
