Keeping my skills up to date

Keeping my skills up to date

It’s Green Careers Week and I’ve been doing my bit to show how the sector is building for the future.

I visited the Toyota Training Academy in Derby to complete some technical CPD on hydrogen technology – a core element in the future mobility mix. Not everything is battery electric, after all.

It’s important that we all equip ourselves for the future, including me, and it’s reassuring to see from a recent IMI TechSafe survey that more and more of you are seeing the benefit of getting your skills up to date.

Like me, 69% of you see the value in receiving information and content on hydrogen fuel cell technology, and it’s the same for battery technology. That bodes well for the future, especially as September marked the one million EV milestone for car registrations.

The sector has also seen another record quarter of technicians undertaking electric vehicle qualifications. This has two benefits: it helps us fill the skills gap that could be created as we transition to an electrified future; and it gives those technicians the opportunity to increase their earnings potential with a greater range of skills.

So, perhaps now is a good time to look at IMI TechSafe professional recognition and how it could accelerate your career and prospects as we shift away from combustion.

And if you know someone who is shown an outstanding commitment to the environment and green innovation in learning, nominate them for The President's Award 2023: Environmental, sustainability and green innovation in learning. Maybe it’s even you. The winner will be announced at next year’s IMI Annual Dinner.

Keep an eye on IMI social channels and its website for some fascinating Green Careers Week content, highlighting just how core it is to automotive’s future success.

We’re all part of the journey, so if you have any questions, please get in touch on +44 (0)1992 519025, or send an email to hello@theimi.org.uk and we’ll try out best to help.

With my very best wishes
