Let me tell you a story ...

Sports Car

Blimey, you have to jump through hoops to access Office of National Statistics micro-level government data. I had to have my professional standing vetted, attend data security training and sit an exam. Thankfully I passed!

And now the IMI – and its Diversity Taskforce – has access to solid information about those currently under-represented in our sector, including ethnic minority communities, those with non-visible and physical disabilities, neuro-diverse capabilities, as well as females, males and those from LGBTQ+ communities.

Why’s it important? Because we need to grow our understanding about why people from diverse backgrounds aren’t joining the automotive sector. Only once we’ve got that can we find workable solutions to make the industry stronger.

But we need your help too.

We also need real-life voices and stories to show what’s happening in the industry, how it’s trying to become more inclusive, and the hurdles we still need to overcome.
It’d be great to hear from all underrepresented groups, (the Gender Identity working group is particularly keen to hear from women and the LGBT+ community).

So if you have a story you want to share, please get in touch by email at ceooffice@theimi.org.uk. All emails will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The IMI’s Diversity Taskforce aims to improve the effectiveness of automotive businesses throughout the industry by becoming a more attractive employment opportunity for everyone regardless of gender, ethnicity or disability. I strongly believe this is a really important project for our industry.

In the meantime, if you have any questions you need answering, we’re here. Get in touch on +44 (0)1992 519025, or send an email to hello@theimi.org.uk.

With my very best wishes
