Review of Scottish Automotive Modern Apprenticeships and Qualifications – Your Chance to Have Your Say!

The IMI is reviewing the Scottish Automotive Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks at SCQF Level 5 and SCQF Level 6/7, as well as the Scottish Bus and Coach Modern Apprenticeship Framework at SCQF Level 6. In addition to the Modern Apprenticeship review, the IMI are also reviewing nine Scottish Automotive SVQ and Diploma qualifications ranging across SCQF Level 5, 6 and 7. We are looking for industry experts, employers, training providers and any other relevant stakeholders to feed into the review.

In total there are three Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks and nine SVQ/Diploma qualifications being reviewed as listed below.

Modern Apprenticeships

1. Modern Apprenticeship in Automotive at SCQF Level 5 (covering Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Motorcycle Maintenance & Repair, Lift Truck Maintenance & Repair, Vehicle Body Repair, Vehicle Body Paintwork Repair, Vehicle Accident Repair Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (MET), Vehicle Parts Operations, Vehicle Fitting, Specialist Tyre Fitting)
2. Modern Apprenticeship in Automotive at SCQF Level 6/7 (covering Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, Motorcycle Maintenance & Repair, Lift Truck Maintenance & Repair, Vehicle Body Repair, Vehicle Body Paintwork Repair, Vehicle Accident Repair Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (MET), Vehicle Parts Operations)
3. Modern Apprenticeship in Bus and Coach Engineering and Maintenance at SCQF Level 6 covering (Bus & Coach Engineering & Maintenance Mechanical-Electrical/Electrical/Mechanical/Body Cladding)

1. SVQ in Vehicle Fitting at SCQF Level 5
2. SVQ in Vehicle Body Repair at SCQF Level 6
3. SVQ in Vehicle Paintwork Repair at SCQF Level 6
4. SVQ in Vehicle Parts Operations at SCQF Level 6
5. Diploma in Vehicle Parts Operations at SCQF Level 6
6. SVQ in Bus and Coach Engineering and Maintenance at SCQF Level 6 (Electrical-Mechanical)
7. SVQ in Bus and Coach Engineering and Maintenance at SCQF Level 6 (Mechanical)
8. SVQ in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 7
9. Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 7

Expert Working Groups:

The IMI is looking to form an Expert Working Group for each subject area of the qualification reviews, made up of industry experts, employers, training providers and other relevant stakeholders. The main purpose of each group will be to review in detail the qualification structure(s), content and evidence requirements as well as reach a consensus on any proposed changes to the given qualifications.

We are looking to hold two Expert Working group meetings for each separate qualification subject area. One at the beginning of the project to look at initial thoughts and a second following our wider consultation phase to agree the final changes.

Therefore the IMI will be holding five initial Expert Working Group meetings remotely via Microsoft Teams from 10am to 1pm on the following dates:

As both the Scottish Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks and a number of Scottish qualifications are being reviewed this year, we thought it would be the best use of time to dedicate part of the Expert Working Group meetings to also reviewing the Modern Apprenticeships where applicable.

The Second Expert Working Group meetings are likely to be scheduled at a later date for October/November 2021, with specific dates to be confirmed.

Wider Consultation

Following the first Expert Working Group meetings we will also be holding wider online consultation on the qualifications and Modern Apprenticeship Frameworks. This shall be done via online survey(s) or via telephone discussions for anyone who would prefer to give feedback verbally. The wider consultation is planned to take place during August and September 2021, with specific dates to be confirmed.
