There for you

There for you

The National Qualifiers kick off this week for the IMI Skills Competitions 2022. It’s the first time they’ve been held in person since 2019. It’s a welcome return as we hunt for the next generation of exciting talent in automotive technology, body repair, refinishing and heavy vehicle technology.

The competitions’ return coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme this year is of loneliness. The absence of face-to-face events has been one cause of the isolation that many of us have felt in the past two and a bit years.

Many people are feeling removed from society and human interaction – and you don’t have to be on your own to suffer. There are so many people who feel isolated and disconnected, with most silently trying to deal with it. But if that’s you, or someone you know, help is available.

The automotive industry charity Ben is playing a vital role, offering assistance to help people cope.

The IMI is here to help, too.

We have many resources, including webinars and articles. And don’t forget as an IMI member you’re part of a community where you can share your experiences. That’s going to be made much easier later this year as access to IMI Connect is extended to all members.

Our recent Member Satisfaction Survey highlighted just how important the IMI is to its members. In answer to the question, “What can the IMI do for you?”, one person simply said: just be there. And we will be, no matter what you need.

Life can be challenging sometimes, but we’re here to help, so if you have any questions, get in touch. Call +44 (0)1992 519025, or send an email to hello@theimi.org.uk.

With my very best wishes

Steve
