VTQ Action Plan: Issuing of vocational and technical qualification results in 2023

writing on paper

Problems with the delivery of vocational and technical qualification (VTQ) results in 2022 affected several of the large awarding organisations (AOs), resulting in results not being available on results day. The regulator, Ofqual, has therefore published a VTQ action plan setting out a number of actions that all AOs must adhere to in order to support the safe and timely delivery of results in 2023.

Further information on Ofqual’s VTQ action plan can be found here.

As part of the VTQ action plan, AOs are required to introduce term-time certification checks with schools and colleges that deliver Level 3 performance table qualifications. This is to ensure that AOs and centres have a clear understanding of which learners are completing our assessments and when they’re intending to complete them by.

For IMI, the VTQ action plan includes the following qualifications:

  • 601/7115/7       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair – Paint
  • 601/7117/0       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair – Body
  • 601/7238/1       IMI Level 3 Diploma In Auto-Electrical And Mobile Electrical Operations
  • 601/7239/3       IMI Level 3 Extended Diploma in Land-Based Engineering Technology
  • 601/7323/3       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair – Multi-Skilled
  • 601/7324/5       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance
  • 601/7325/7       IMI Level 3 Extended Diploma in Light Vehicle  Maintenance
  • 601/7327/0       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
  • 601/7328/2       IMI Level 3 Diploma in Motorcycle Maintenance
  • 601/7334/8       IMI Level 3 Extended Diploma in Motorsport Maintenance

These will be referred to as KS5 L3 Tech Levels.

In order for IMI to satisfy the regulator’s VTQ action plan, we will need to collect the following information from your centre:

  • Confirm the main contact and the exams officer for each centre
  • Confirm a senior point of contact (this must be someone who is available out of term-time in case of urgent queries or in the event that something goes wrong)
  • Identify learners who intend to use their KS5 L3 Tech Level qualification to progress to higher education.

To ensure our information about learner progression is accurate, we will be introducing two term-time checkpoints – one at the end of April and the other at the beginning of June.

We’ll be in touch with you shortly to share more details on the timeframe to satisfy the results day deadline for eligible learners and how we’ll work with you to achieve this.
