Your chance to have your say: Scottish Light Vehicle Qualifications
We’re reviewing SVQ and Diploma Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Qualifications in Scotland at SCQF Level 5 and 7 and need your help.
The IMI is reviewing the SVQ and Diploma Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Qualifications in Scotland at SCQF Level 5 and 7. In order to complete the process we’re looking for industry experts, employers, training providers and any other relevant stakeholders to feed into the review. The more input we have the better the outcome of the process.
It’s an incredibly important task, the automotive landscape is changing rapidly with new technologies emerging, so this is a good opportunity to make sure qualifications reflect the industry’s changing landscape.
In total there are four qualifications being reviewed:
- SVQ in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 5
- Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 5
- SVQ in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 7
- Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at SCQF Level 7
The Light Vehicle National Occupational Standards (NOS) were reviewed and updated during 2019/20 so we’re reviewing the Scottish qualifications to bring them in line with any changes made to the NOS. It’ll make sure that qualifications are fit for purpose.
Bringing people together
The IMI wants to form an Expert Working Group of Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair industry experts made up of employers, training providers and other relevant stakeholders for the review of these qualifications.
The main purpose of the group will be to provide a detailed review of the qualification structure, content and evidence requirements and reach a consensus on any proposed changes.
Two Expert Working Group meetings will be held during the project; one at the beginning of the project to look at initial thoughts and a second following our wider consultation phase to agree the final changes.
The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 16th September 2020 from 9:30am to 1pm. The second meeting is proposed to take place the week commencing the 30th November, but will be confirmed at a later date. Previously we’ve always held Expert Working Group meetings face-to-face, but given the current circumstances with COVID-19 we’ll be holding these remotely via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Details on how to join the remote meetings will be given in advance of the meeting.
If you would like to take part in the Expert Working Group for the review of these Scottish Light Vehicle qualifications please email Laura Henderson.
Following the first Expert Working Group meeting we’ll also hold wider online consultation on these qualifications and any proposed changes. This’ll be done either via an online survey or telephone discussions for anyone who would prefer to give feedback verbally. The wider consultation is planned to take place between 12th October and 6th November 2020. Again, if you’d like to take part in the wider consultation please email Laura Henderson.
