Below, we highlight the British values and the IMI Professional Standards to underpin the value of what is it to be a british citizen and how we drive up professionalism within the industry.
British values are Democracy, Rule of Law, Respect and Tolerance and Individual Liberty. Fundamental British Values underpin what it is to be a citizen in a modern and diverse Great Britain valuing our community and celebrating diversity of the UK.
The IMI has implemented Professional Standards designed to drive up professionalism within the motor industry. The Professional Standards set a benchmark for industry professionals and fundamentally focus on professional behaviours with the consumer or customer in mind. The Professional Standards have three strands at their core and these are Professional Conduct and Ethics, Professional Competence and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Democracy
A culture built upon freedom and equality, where everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities.

Rule of Law

IMI Professional Standards
- Do not bring yourself, others, IMI or the Professional Register into disrepute
- Adhere to the law at all times and raise legitimate concerns of non-compliance
Individual Liberty
Protection of your rights and the right of others you work with. The freedom to hold beliefs and act or express them in line with the law. To make our own choices and understand the rewards and/or consequences of your actions

Respect and Tolerance
Understanding that we all don’t share the same beliefs and values. Respecting the values, ideas and beliefs of others whilst not imposing our own others.
