Currently completing an IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair, hear from Chloe, and her training provider, Skillnet, on her journey so far.
What inspired you to join the automotive industry?
I was looking for a hands-on apprenticeship and a career with a future, something that would keep me challenged and engaged, as I get bored easily. I’ve always been interested in cars and modifying them, which naturally led me to an apprenticeship in vehicle body repair. And it turns out, I absolutely love it!
Have you faced any challenges on your journey, and how have you overcome them?
Coming into the trade as a woman, I was a bit cautious at first. But the experience has been fantastic. I was welcomed into the industry by my colleagues, and they’ve supported me throughout my apprenticeship journey. Their encouragement has made a huge difference. Big thanks to my mentor!
How would you describe your competition experience so far?
Taking part in competitions has really helped me grow. I do get nervous driving to events, but they’ve pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me come out of my shell. Meeting other competitors and challenging myself has been an amazing experience. I also attended a training day at Car-O-Liner, which was really valuable, I picked up new skills and insights that I’ve been able to apply in the workshop, and no doubt will help me in the competition.
How do you think the competition will help you with your career?
Being able to say I made it to the final of the IMI WorldSkills UK competition is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s a great milestone for my development as both an apprentice and a future body repair professional and it’s great to represent my employer too. I’d like to say a massive thank you to Poole Automotive and Skillnet for their ongoing support throughout my apprenticeship and the competition journey.
