Paul Phillip

Paul has spent the last 25 years setting and upholding professional standards, whether in medicine or law. He is presently the Chief Executive of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the body responsible for regulating and setting the standards of education and conduct for over 200,000 solicitors. Prior to this he was the Deputy Chief Executive of the General Medical Council, again setting and upholding professional standards of competence and performance for over 250,000 doctors in the UK.  

In his present role he has led the introduction of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination – a completely new way for solicitors to qualify, developing new assessment measures and competency standards. Paul has championed the re-introduction of apprenticeships for solicitors and is a keen advocate for equality and social mobility.
