Our Commitment:

Driving the Future of Automotive Professionals

The UK automotive sector is at a pivotal moment. As a cornerstone of the national economy, it supports 866,000 jobs and contributed £37 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) in 2023. But the industry faces a critical challenge — a widening skills gap, with over 14,000 vacancies currently unfilled.

At the same time, the sector is undergoing a rapid technological transformation. From electric vehicles (EVs) to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the nature of automotive work is changing fast. Future success depends on attracting new talent, upskilling existing professionals, and ensuring clear, accessible career pathways into the industry.

Our Commitment to the Sector

IMI Manifesto - why it matters

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic automotive industry. That means breaking down barriers to entry, especially for underrepresented groups, and supporting employers with the tools to invest in their people — whether that’s through improved access to funding, ongoing CPD, or more flexible training routes.
