The job market has changed significantly, and a new set of desirable skills has emerged as the job’s market has shifted, circumstances have changed and businesses look for something different to meet their needs. These highly sought-after skills are surprisingly all non-technical but soft or transferable.

Here are the three skills that could help you land your perfect role…

Communication

It appears everywhere, the ability to communicate, especially under new working regimes where things can be online. We’ve changed to a highly digital work place and being able to communicate in multiple ways is essential: face to face, over the phone, written emails and via video link all need different approaches to communication and we must master each discipline to achieve the best results.

Customer Service

Increasingly appearing in all job roles as a desirable skill, the ability to talk to customers in a professional and enthusiastic way if you are customer facing or not is a real selling point for you. This links nicely with communication skills too.

Self-motivation

On all of the Top 10 desired skills across all job roles. Call it lifelong learning, continuous professional development or tenacity, showing you have continued to move forward and progress is essential. We know it can be hard, especially under the restrictions we’ve all been living through over the past year; unemployment, furlough and home schooling can really take its toll, but by developing your resilience and showing how you have kept motivated can really be a selling point for you.
