Celebrating our diversity

Celebrating our diversity

Every time you drive through a traffic light, you have Garrett Morgan to thank. He conceived the three-position design, making it clearer that a change between red and green is about to happen. And not that everyone uses them, but Richard Spikes invented the turn signal, helping improve safety when driving.

These are two pioneers of the automotive sector, and the IMI is proud to be celebrating Garrett and Richard – and others – as part of Black History Month in October.

Black History Month is the annual celebration and commemoration of moments in history, achievements and contributions that Black people have made. And I haven’t even mentioned the impact Sir Lewis Hamilton has had on the world of motorsport! We can all learn something and perhaps inspire someone to join the sector and build a great career.

Keep an eye out on the IMI’s social channels and website for more inspirational stories throughout Black History Month. And of course, check out the IMI Diversity Task Force that’s making sure automotive is open to all.

In the meantime if you have any other questions, please get in touch on +44 (0)1992 519025, or send an email to hello@theimi.org.uk and we’ll try out best to help.

With my very best wishes

Steve
