Heavy Vehicle and B&C NOS Review Update – January 2021

IMI Bus and Coach NOS review: where we are now

The IMI Bus and Coach NOS review began in early October. To enable a systematic approach the NOS suite was split into two halves:

  • Mechanical and Electrical in October
  • Coachbuilder in November

Expert Working Groups determined there was a great deal of synergy between the standards for Bus and Coach Mechanical/Electrical and the newly reviewed Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Similarly, standards for Coachbuilder and Bodybuilder were alike; however unlike the Heavy Vehicle NOS, the Bodybuilder NOS had not been reviewed since 2010 so it was unlikely to be current enough to be taken at face value. Therefore a new NOS for Coachbuilding has been developed, based upon the old Bodybuilder NOS, but also incorporating a more modern format and two new units around panel preparation and paint application.

To ensure all elements of the old Bus and Coach Engineering and Maintenance (BACEM) NOS suite has been considered during the review, we have developed a document which illustrates how the standards have been mapped across to Heavy Vehicle and Bodybuilding – to see this mapping document click here.

There are two surveys currently running to gather feedback on the Heavy Vehicle and Bus & Coach NOS reviews:

We would also welcome any emails with feedback and are happy to arrange telephone calls to discuss if required. There will also be a final on-line wash-up meeting on 16th February 2021 to gather final feedback and ensure the sector is satisfied the review has reached a successful conclusion.

To leave feedback or register your interest in the wash-up meeting, please contact Caroline Harris on 07827 856 564, or email carolineh@theimi.org.uk. Alternatively, contact Lloyd Mason on 07920 583638, or email lloyd.rttdc@gmail.com.

The IMI welcomes all who wish to participate - thank you for making this standard current and relevant.
