The IMI Launches 2012 Headlight Competition
The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has announced the opening of registrations for this year’s Headlight competition, sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover. The Competition is part of the Headlight initiative developed by the IMI in conjunction with specialist teachers through the National Schools Partnership (NSP) that includes a series of free curriculum-linked teacher and student resources, with the motor industry as the exciting backdrop.
The competition asks groups of students to develop a vehicle brand, product and marketing promotion, which are then submitted to a panel of independent motor industry judges to select the winners. This year, in addition to the normal category of 14-16 year old secondary school students, the competition will also include an additional category for 16-19 year old college students for the first time.
The winning teams and their teacher will receive a tour of the Land Rover Heritage Museum, lunch at the Jaguar Land Rover Training Academy and a 4x4 off road experience. During their visit, winning teams will also be chauffer driven between locations in a fleet of brand new Land Rovers.
Headlight aims to develop strong relationships between schools and the UK-wide automotive retail network and increase awareness of the exciting opportunities for young people within the sector, giving them an insight into the automotive world.
The free resources help young people understand how a complex business functions, and helps them attainment of some key curriculum objectives particularly for business and enterprise related courses.
