In 2023, Al-Futtaim’s Automotive Talent Centre in Dubai became the region’s first IMI Approved Centre for electric mobility technologies. This hub is working to futureproof the industry by offering the most up-to-date training on the latest technology. Since its inception, over 2,100 technicians have become certified in IMI Electric/Hybrid Vehicle qualifications (in Levels 1-4). An additional 700 people are expected to gain certification by the end of 2025.
The Talent Centre is also the first international partner to be awarded direct claims status for ADAS Level 1 and 2 certifications, with the first cohort delivered in September 2025.
This work is important to the industry as a whole and was one of the reasons Al-Futtaim was awarded the IMI’s International Partner of the Year Award in 2025.
“Al-Futtaim Automotive won the IMI’s inaugural and highly prestigious International Partner of the Year Award for our role in shaping the global automotive skills agenda. At Al-Futtaim Automotive, we take capability building very seriously because it underpins our success in driving innovation and staying at the forefront of the industry."Amr Diab, Al-Futtaim Automotive’s HR Director.
The commitment goes a step further, in that Al-Futtaim has introduced their own bespoke photocard system which visually displays each technician’s IMI EV certification level, promoting pride, transparency, and safety. Mirroring IMI’s official cards, it requires all high-voltage vehicle technicians to carry their personalized ID, with compliance upheld through audits and three-year renewal cycles. All of which ensures continues professional development in this area.
