IMI Level 3 Diploma in Body Building Principles (VRQ)

Who is it suitable for?

This L3 qualification provides essential knowledge and skills for body builders working on a wide range of vehicle types in specialist body building businesses.

About

The learning programme involves theory and practical aspects, including:

• setting out and assembling body parts and components
• fabricating body panels and components
• MAG welding techniques
• pre and post work inspections

Optional unit choices include:

• installing ancillary units and components
• further thermal joining techniques

Learners will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI Sector Skills Council’s Accident Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (Body Building).

Progression

When an apprentice has achieved a L3 Apprenticeship they can then choose to broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base.

Assessment

The assessment is made up of three components which are set by IMI Awards:

• Practical tasks
• Online testing
• Written assignment / coursework
