This qualification expired on 31st August 2014. 

It has been replaced by a new single ‘combined’ knowledge and competency IMI qualification IMI Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration  (QCF) I.D. No 601/3451/3 on 1st September 2014.   This means that the new qualification incorporates both knowledge and the competence within the same qualification.

The ‘combined’ qualification has therefore also replaced the current NVQ and VRQ/technical certificate within the respective apprenticeship frameworks at Levels 2 and 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as acting as a standalone qualification.

Who is it suitable for?

The NVQ is for individuals new to administration or with limited administrative experience. For some, successful completion could provide useful recognition of a learner’s professional competence to aid their step from one job role to another, e.g. moving into supervisory and/or management roles. For others, it could prepare them for progression to further learning and training.

About

This qualification provides learners with the opportunity to gain recognition of their skills in a wide range of everyday administrative tasks. Successful achievement of this qualification will demonstrate that learner’s can take on responsibilities such as:

  • managing diary system
  • preparing notes for meetings
  • dealing with clients.

Learners may also gain knowledge and skills in more challenging activities such as event co-ordination and project support. With the inclusion of optional units, the learner can tailor their NVQ to suit their individual role and the needs of their employer.

This IMI NVQ also forms the competence component of the Council for Administration (CfA) Business and Administration Apprenticeship (L2) framework.

Learners will demonstrate their competence in:

  • managing their own performance in a business environment
  • improving their own performance in a business environment 
  • working in a business environment
  • communicating in a business environment

Optional units include:

  • work responsibilities
  • project management
  • document production
  • events and meetings
  • customer service
  • communications
  • management of information and data 
  • business resources
  • innovation and change
  • specialised business support services (HR)
  • the health, safety and security of people, premises and property
  • IT

Progression

For some learners this qualification could prepare them for progression to further learning and training. For others, this qualification could also provide a useful recognition of their practical skills and knowledge, to aid their step from one job role to another.

Assessment

Learners must demonstrate that they are able to perform their job, or an appropriate task, competently. Learners will achieve this by demonstrating that they can meet the NVQ's learning outcomes and assessment criteria by criterion referencing their performance evidence in a portfolio of evidence.
