Who is it suitable for?

This VCQ is a work-based qualification that assesses the skills and knowledge that people in your job need to perform their job role effectively.

  • employees of the industry who are seeking to enhance and/or demonstrate their experience and competence in their work role. (Experienced staff enter on to a VCQ programme at the level suited to their role and competence.)

Successful candidates will demonstrate a broad working knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working on site.

About

This VCQ is a work-based qualification that assesses the skills and knowledge that people in your job need to perform their job role effectively. It is a motor industry qualification that covers activities that relate to service technicians working on lift truck workshops, customer sites and maintenance depots.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a broad working knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working on site.

  • The qualification includes:

    lift truck systems: engines (fuel & ignition systems), transmissions, drive axles, brakes, steering, tyres, lift truck electric and electronic systems.
  • fault diagnosis and routine maintenance of all the above systems.

Progression

For some learners this qualification could prepare them for progression to further learning and training. For others, this qualification could also provide a useful recognition of their practical skills and knowledge, to aid their step from one job role to another

Assessment

The learner will demonstrate their skills and knowledge by collecting evidence of their work. The evidence is usually presented in a portfolio (however your approved centre may use an alternative method). Your assessor will advise you on how to generate, collect and present your evidence. Learners will also take online multiple-choice tests.
