Who is it suitable for?

The VCQ is for individuals who work in job roles such as warehouse or storage operatives, e.g. pickers/packers, loaders, and, with appropriate training, fork lift truck operators. These individuals will undertake a range of duties (working alone or in a team):

  • loading/unloading of vehicles
  • selecting and packing customer orders
  • ensuring goods are ready for dispatch on time.

For some individuals, this qualification can provide useful recognition of their professional competence to aid their step from one job role to another, e.g. moving into supervisory and/or management roles. For others, it could prepare them for progression to further learning and training.

About

The purpose and aim of this competence qualification is to provide individuals working in warehousing and storage occupations within the logistics sector, e.g. a warehouse operatives, forklift drivers, warehouse team leader/supervisors, with a flexible qualification which develops and demonstrates their competence, skills and knowledge in their job role.

This L2 qualification deals with the movement and storage of goods. Learners can demonstrate their competence in a wide variety of functions which can include:

  • operating specialist machinery
  • managing stock appropriately
  • audit inventory
  • managing the receipt, storage & dispatch of goods
  • processing returned goods
  • organising stock transportation
  • compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • customer service
  • leading a team.

Learners will cover subjects including

  • health, safety & security at work
  • effective working relationships with colleagues
  • a wide range of options in specialist topics, e.g. use of a compact crane, use of a forklift side-loader and the provision of customer care.

Learners can undertake the IMI Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage, as part of the SFL Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Storage.

Progression

On completion there is the possibility of onward progression to a L3 qualification and further training to become a Team Leader.

Assessment

Learners will demonstrate their occupational competence, skills and knowledge by collecting evidence of their work. This evidence is usually presented in a portfolio (however your approved centre may use an alternative method). The assessor will advise learners how to generate, collect and present their evidence.
