Who is it suitable for?

This qualification allows learners to develop underpinning knowledge whilst practising skills that could be used within employment in the land-based technology industry. This Level 3 Diploma allows learners to expand their specialist focus. Therefore it is ideal for individuals who have a keen interest and some practical experience in maintaining agricultural equipment and machinery, and who wish to develop their skills and knowledge in a particular area of the sector.

About

The purpose and aim of this vocationally related qualification is to engage and motivate individuals who are interested in learning about land-based technology and the various roles that are available in the land-based industry. The qualification's combination of units provides the learners with the flexibility of choice.

The Level 3 Diploma contains four mandatory topics:

  • Service and Repair of Engines and Components 
  • Service and Repair of Hydraulic Systems and Components 
  • Understanding Health, Safety and Welfare in the Land-based Engineering Workplace 
  • Understanding Land-based Vehicle Chassis Systems

Progression

The achievement of the IMI Level 3 Extended Diploma in Land-based Technology (QCF) meets the LANTRA entry requirement for the Advanced Apprenticeship for Land-based Engineering.

Assessment

The qualification includes a practical approach to assessment, which should stimulate and interest the learner. The qualification also uses online tests and written assessments to demonstrate the learner's knowledge and understanding of the subject.
