Who is it suitable for?

This vocational competence qualification (VCQ) is aimed at experienced technicians who are working at, or beginning to work at, management level. To be awarded this qualification, learners must demonstrate that are able to perform their job competently.

Therefore a typical learner will be 19 years plus, working in industry with experience of diagnosing and rectifying faults on a wide range of vehicle systems. It is expected that learners will already hold a Level 3 automotive technical qualification and/or an Advanced Apprenticeship.

About

The qualification contains mandatory units, i.e. those considered essential for learners to achieve. Optional units are also included to allow learners to broaden their studies in specific areas of interest.

Progression

For some learners this qualification could prepare them for progression to further learning and training. For others, this qualification could also provide a useful recognition of their practical skills and knowledge, to aid their step from one job role to another.

Assessment

This qualification requires a practical approach to assessment. Learners must provide evidence of their occupational competence in the workplace. However the qualification also uses online tests and written assignments to ensure the learner's knowledge and understanding.
