Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for Skills for Logistics apprentices (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) who work within the logistics sector.  It equips learners with an understanding of employment rights and responsibilities within the logistics industry and the role of their organisation within the industry.

Note:  A learner who is not in an apprenticeship role/placement in the logistics industry will find it difficult to achieve the requirements of this qualification.

About

Learners will gain a clear understanding of their own role within the organisation.  They will also learn about their rights and responsibilities as an individual and their responsibilities when dealing with others.  This understanding will provide a basis for progression to competence based qualifications in the logistics industry.

Therefore this qualification covers areas such as:

  • statutory responsibility and rights of employees and employers
  • health, safety and security
  • organisation policies and procedures
  • awareness of own occupational role and how this fits within the sector
  • sources of information relating to employment rights and responsibilities
  • and public concerns affecting the industry.

Progression

This qualification forms a mandatory component of the Skills for Logistics (Sector Skills Council) Apprenticeship framework.  During an apprenticeship learners will gain a variety of new skills and develop knowledge that will lead towards successful completion.  Therefore this qualification is taken alongside other qualifications in the framework, which include a Vocational Competence Qualification and Vocationally Related Qualification (knowledge) in the learner’s occupational subject area and Functional Skills.

Assessment

Learners are required to provide a portfolio of evidence that meets the requirements of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria in full.  Skills for Logistics recommend the use of their E.R.R. Workbook: An Introduction to Employee Rights and Responsibilities for Apprentices in the Logistics Sector, to assist with the collation of this evidence.  Generally this will be delivered as part of the learner’s induction programme and within the apprenticeship programme itself.
