At the IMI, we imagine a world where all people are free to be themselves and can live their lives to the full. Inclusive workplaces have a huge part to play in making this world a reality. In today’s society, all the complexities and varieties of differences that employees bring to the work environment matter. Everybody has a reason to learn about the impact of differences on the work environment.

Developed for First Line Managers, the aim of this Level 5 qualification is to get conversations going around equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I), to help shine a light on current practice and take steps to create a more diverse-friendly inclusive work environment.

From looking through a new ‘lens’ of diversity, equity, and inclusion to knowing your workforce, this qualification covers key concepts and practical strategies which can be applied and embedded in different contexts, thereby signalling a commitment towards positive development.

Encompassing five key steps arising from the Diversity Task Force, the IMI’s solution provides opportunity for reflective practice, both to understand the experience of under-represented groups in the sector and to effect positive change.

Mandatory Units

This Award comprises two mandatory units. Unit 1 covers key concepts in ED&I. Unit 2 provides an opportunity for individuals to explore and reflect on ED&I within their own organisation, area of responsibility, or chosen local community setting.

Indicative Unit Content

The indicative unit content provides examples of the range and depth of coverage to meet the assessment requirements, while retaining flexibility and opportunity for individuals to cover content which is relevant to their own needs, circumstances, or areas of interest.

Flexible Assessment Methods

For Unit 1: Understanding Key Concepts in ED&I, individuals will participate in a two-way professional discussion with an IMI centre approved assessor.

For Unit 2: Exploring ED&I (Reflective Practice), individuals will develop a portfolio, containing evidence to meet the assessment requirements. Evidence contained within the portfolio may be in a variety of different formats, so assessment methods can be adapted to meet different preferences and needs.

Assessment and Grading

The qualification is Pass or Fail only. To Pass Unit 1, all the assessment criteria must be Met. To Pass Unit 2, all the assessment criteria must be Met.

If an individual were to fail a unit, then the overall qualification outcome will be a Fail. In this situation, further teaching/coaching, learning and development should take place before the assessment of that unit is attempted again.

To support assessment processes, key terminology definitions are provided to ensure a consistent and valid approach.
