Qualification Purpose:

This IMI Level 2 Technical Specialist in Preparing Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicles for Repair (Award) provides further professional development opportunities for a Technician/Learner who has completed the Level 2 Autocare Technician apprenticeship standard ST0499 or an equivalent qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair at Level 2.

This qualification has been developed in consultation with experts from the automotive sector and is subject to regular ongoing reviews due to new technologies and/or advancements in vehicle technology.

The qualification content provides the essential knowledge and skills for an individual to work safely on a heavy vehicle which has high voltage vehicle systems. The Technician/Learner will be able to recognise and deal with hazards and risks associated with heavy vehicle’s high voltage systems and, isolate and reinstate the high voltage systems to enable routine heavy vehicle maintenance and repairs to be safely carried out. This qualification does not qualify a Technician/Learner to carry out work directly on the high voltage system of a heavy vehicle.

Individuals who wish to develop the knowledge and skills to work directly on a heavy vehicle’s high voltage system should complete the IMI Level 3 Technical Specialist in Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement (Award) qualification. Note: An individual must have previously achieved a qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair at Level 3.
