Written by employers, with input from sector specialists, the Retailer Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard is suitable for those looking to further their knowledge, skills and experience working in the automotive retail industry.
Retailers must be passionate about delivering a quality service that always aims to exceed customers’ expectations. Therefore, retailers enjoy direct contact with a wide range of people and are motivated by completing a sale and knowing a customer is happy with their purchase.
Apprentices can gain knowledge and skills in assisting customers when they purchase products and services, which requires a good understanding of the stock being sold, the variety of ways customers can shop and the ability to process payments.
Designed with different learning styles in mind, IMI’s solution ensures apprentices are fully engaged and prepared for their End Point Assessment (EPA). This standard provides an ideal stepping stone into specialist, team leading, supervisory or first line management roles within retail and higher level training and apprenticeships.
Retailers create an accessible, well-presented environment where customers are encouraged to buy products or services, while delivering exceptional customer service. They will contribute towards the commerciality of the business by achieving targets, including sales and customer service, and following stock control in-line with business objectives.

More specialist retailers include funeral services, garden centres, delicatessens and people who work in remote environments for example in telephone, on-line and mail order retail.
Typical job titles include: retailer, trading assistant, customer team member, sales assistant, customer service assistant, counter assistant, retail sales advisor, and sales consultant.
