Overview of the role 

The Retail Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard is suitable for those who have responsibility for guiding and coordinating staff, their work and sales, within an automotive retail environment. 

Retail team leaders are a critical support to managers, delivering exceptional customer service and a positive experience to customers, and may have to deputise for managers in their absence. The role is dynamic and in one day can involve a variety of different functions. 

Designed with different learning styles in mind, IMI’s solution ensures apprentices are fully engaged and prepared for their End Point Assessment (EPA).

“Guiding and coordinating staff, their work and sales within a retail environment.” 

Role/Occupation 

Retail team leaders guide and coordinate the work of the team to complete tasks, identify and explore opportunities that drive sales, ensuring team members maintain business standards in relation to merchandising, service and promotional activities, in line with procedures. Retail team leaders gain the most of their team on a day to day basis, ensuring they are fully trained and work effectively and to the best of their ability. 

Progression opportunities 

Progression from this apprenticeship could be into a junior retail management position or onto higher level training and apprenticeships. 

Minimum duration to gateway:

12 months (this does not include the EPA period). 

Entry Requirements 

Employers will set their own entry requirements, but it is expected that the individual will have gained experience working in an operational role within the industry. 

End-Point Assessment Gateway (Mandatory) 

  • English and Maths at Level 2 achieved (if not already held) 

  • Apprentice has developed all the knowledge, skills and behaviours defined in the apprenticeship standard 

  • Viable business project identified 

  • Employer and Training Organisation agree that the apprentice is ready for EPA. 

Assessment Overview 

The EPA takes place at the end of the apprentice’s learning and development, after the apprentice has met the EPA Gateway requirements. The EPA window is 3-months and assessment activities will typically be completed in the following order: 

The EPA has three assessment methods: 

  • Multiple Choice Test (Graded Fail/Pass only). 

  • Business Project (Graded Fail/Pass/Distinction). 

  • Professional Discussion (Graded Fail/Pass/Distinction). 

Overall Apprenticeship Grade 

In addition to passing the Multiple Choice Test, the final overall grade is based on the Apprentice's overall performance in the Business Project and Professional Discussion: Fail/Pass/Distinction
