WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?

This SVQ is a work-based qualification that assesses the skills and knowledge that people in your job need to perform their job role effectively.

It is a motor industry qualification that covers activities that relate to technicians working on heavy goods and public service vehicles (HGV and PSV) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Successful learners will demonstrate a broad working knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other related service and maintenance skills associated with working in a garage.

ABOUT

The qualification includes the following areas:

  • Carrying out inspections to heavy goods and public service vehicles
  • Diagnosing and rectifying faults to vehicle engine units, electrical units, chassis units, transmission and driveline components

 And offers opportunities for learners to also demonstrate:

  • Enabling learning through demonstration and instruction
  • Identifying and agreeing motor vehicle customer needs
  • Diagnosing and rectifying heavy goods and public service vehicle transmission and driveline system faults
  • Removing and replacing components in an electric vehicle high voltage powertrain and ancillary systems

PROGRESSION 

For some learners this qualification could prepare them for progression to further learning and training. For others, this qualification could also provide a useful recognition of their practical skills and knowledge, to aid their step from one job role to another.

 ASSESSMENT

You will demonstrate your skills and knowledge by collecting evidence of your work. This evidence is usually presented in a portfolio (however your approved centre may use an alternative method). Your assessor will advise you on how to generate, collect and present your evidence. You will also undertake IMI Awards set 'online' multiple-choice tests.
