Apply to become an IMI member through a written assessment
Got the experience, but not the qualifications? You’re in the right place. You can still join the IMI without a qualification through our written assessment option.
Written assessments are ideal for professionals with extensive industry experience who don’t hold a formal qualification. Whether you’re a First Line Manager or Senior Strategic Manager working within automotive.
We’ll provide a template below with clear questions to help you demonstrate how you meet the required criteria. You can complete it in your own time, at your own pace.

Please note: When applying through the written membership route, you’ll pay the £99 for the written assessment and the fee for your membership grade. If also eligible for the either of the engineering awards, you’ll also need to pay the £12.50 application fee and the cost of the award as detailed above.
Are you a teacher, trainer or assessor?
If you’re working towards the Advanced Automotive Trainer (AAT) or the Advanced Automotive Assessor (AdAA) Award, you’ll need to complete a case study as part of your submission.
We’ll supply a dedicated template to help you present your experience and evidence effectively, making it simple to show how you meet the required standards.
