The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), which has been lobbying for the introduction of regulation for vehicle technicians working with electrically-propelled vehicles, believes it is vital that training and accreditation is extended to those dealing with the latest automotive technology at the roadside.

A paper released last week by a leading German automotive training technology developer, Lucas-Nülle, has received support from the UK-based and international automotive Professional Body, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), for electric vehicle training to become a key focus for vehicle technicians.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK have become the first manufacturer to successfully complete the End-Point Assessment (EPA) for the Light Vehicle Standard and have lead the way in training and educating their apprentices under the new training standards.

First of its kind and launched by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional body for the automotive sector, the Autocare Technician Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard is ready to be rolled out as a replacement for the popular Light Vehicle Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework.
