You are safe with me
We at the IMI are working hard to make sure all our spaces are LGBTQIA+ friendly, and we want everyone to know! So, we are introducing our new “safe with me” badges from the Gaypride Store, these badges were designed by Claire Zagorski, and the profits from them have gone on to support some incredible LGBTQIA+ charities. The safe with me badges hold the colours of the Progression Pride flag which was designed by Non-binary Artist Daniel Quasar in 2018. This take parts the original and Iconic rainbow from 1978 (designed by Gilbert Baker, Artist and Drag queen). Quasars redesign celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community, it is also calling for a more inclusive community.
Each colour in badge has an important meaning, so what do the colours mean?
The white, pale pink and blue represent the Transgender, Non Binary and in the most recent flag of 2021 you will also see in this section the intersex flag (yellow background and purple ring)
The black and brown colours represent people of colour in the community. And the black also represents those we are living with AIDs and those we lost to AIDs.
On the Progression flag these above colours are shown as arrows that face forward to show that there is still much progression to be made.
The Rainbow flag colours:
Red represents life
Orange represents healing
Yellow represents sunlight
Green represents nature
Blue represents harmony
And finally, purple represents spirit.
The Pride Flags are ever evolving with our community, so you may see new versions in the coming years! Keep your eyes peeled for our “Your safe with me” badges at our next event.
