Designing a new automotive industry

Designing a new automotive industry

The sharpest challenge facing the automotive sector is how we attract future talent. This is a brilliant industry, but there are still misconceptions about it. We must tell the younger generation the true story.

This is why we worked with Sytner to run this year’s IMI Business Studies Competition to design the vehicle of the future.

The winner was a wonderful submission from Jai Mistry from West Yorkshire. Jai’s design – named CaSE (Cost-Saving, Safe and Environmentally friendly) – brings together the latest technologies to reduce vehicle ownership costs, protect the planet and keep families safe. Sustainable mobility is really important to this generation.

Jai put colossal thought into his vehicle design, which is bursting with new inventions, and delivered a well-thought-out brand and marketing campaign to promote his vision of the future.

This whole issue of how automotive encourages children such as Jai is the lead feature in your latest MotorPro magazine. I encourage you to read it, it’s full of ideas about how to make the industry as attractive as possible to young people.

A final note about attracting the stars of automotive: don’t forget to get your nominations in for the IMI Annual Awards, including the Full-Time Student of the Year. The deadline is less than a week away, and the winners will be announced at our Annual Dinner on 15 March 2023.

With my very best wishes
