IMI reviews Electric & Hybrid Vehicle National Occupational Standards

Professional body works with members in multi-channel consultation to keep NOS fit for purpose

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is reviewing Electric and Hybrid Vehicle National Occupational Standards (NOS) that feed directly into qualifications to ensure standards are kept up to date and fit for purpose. The first phase sees the IMI running face-to-face meetings in all nations, complementing these with online meetings and digital surveys for those who are unable to attend or who want to contribute more. The second phase will see wider consultation gather feedback on the new draft NOS.

Developed by the IMI in consultation with employers and other stakeholders across each of the UK nations, National Occupational Standards (NOS) are statements of the standards of performance individuals must achieve when carrying out functions in the workplace, together with specifications of the underpinning knowledge and understanding. The consultation process allows specific requirements to be considered by each nation, resulting in a set of NOS suitable for use across the UK.

“The automotive industry has changed significantly in recent years, and that trend is set to continue for many more years, leaving previous occupational standards outdated and even irrelevant in places,” commented Caroline Harris, Frameworks & Qualifications Development Manager at the IMI.

“To ensure future occupational standards, training and qualifications meet the needs of the automotive sector of today and the future, we need feedback and input from across the industry, and look forward to working together to build NOS for the future. The review will include what has changed since these NOS were last reviewed, what is coming that we don’t have a NOS for, what additional job roles are emerging and any other topics raised during consultation.”

• Wales – 23^rd October, Coleg y Cymoedd, Ystrad Mynach, S Wales

Initial dates for online meetings:

• England – 16^th November, 1pm
• Scotland – 17^th November, 10am
• Northern Ireland – 15^th November, 1pm
• Wales – 16^th November 10am

Online all nations washup – 14^th December, 10am
