MOT testers at risk of being suspended from carrying out tests if they fail to carry out their training and assessment

IMI supports test centres with flexible, hassle-free MOT Annual Training and Assessment process
Ahead of the deadline for MOT Annual Assessments and CPD on 31st of March, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is supporting test centres to avoid the risk of them having MOT testers suspended. This follows the DVSA’s confirmation that, “if you’re not able to complete your training and assessment on time… you will lose your ability to test.”
The IMI is one of the biggest and most respected providers of MOT Annual Training and Assessments, delivering flexible and convenient training and assessments, including eLearning that contains questions set by the DVSA.
Failing to complete an MOT Annual Assessment in time results in the individual having their tester status suspended. If this happens, they can no longer carry out MOTs, which can have a significant impact on business and profits. To get their status reinstated, the individual must complete the next year’s assessment, record 3 hours of annual training, book and deliver a demonstration test with the DVSA and submit a new DBS check. This not only costs money and time for the test centre, but also puts them at risk from losing customers who may well turn to the competition and remain loyal to the new garage in the future.
Recognising the time required to complete the annual assessment, for 2025-26 the IMI has streamlined the process to provide hassle-free training. The innovative new IMI eLearning platform simulates real-world vehicle inspections, offering immersive learning that utilises narration rather than text to deliver a more intuitive and easier to use experience.
Available to individuals, businesses and in batch to wholesale providers, the IMI eLearning course offers a unique perspective on MOT inspection, helping to navigate DVSA manuals more effectively.
Those who purchase the eLearning module with the IMI annual assessment can complete the assessment immediately after training ensuring garages do not lose business and customers get the service they need exactly when they need it.
