12th – 16th October 2020

As the furlough scheme winds down, but social distancing remains a challenge for many communities, putting continued pressure on employers in the automotive sector, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is setting out to help those facing potential job loss. IMI Employability Week, taking place 12th – 16th October 2020, will comprise a series of online resources focused on arming those facing unemployment with the tools to put them in the best possible position for their next job.

From refreshing a CV and building an online profile to interview and communication techniques in the virtual world, the dedicated IMI Employability Week web page will also include helpful resource packs, ‘how to guides’, tips and advice, short videos, talks and presentations, and more.

“There is no doubt that the pandemic has seriously affected the UK’s workforce in many ways”, said Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI.  “Now, with the furlough scheme coming to an end, there is a lot of employment uncertainty and for those who have been in a particular role for several years there could be considerable fear about getting back into the job market, from writing a CV and submitting impactful job applications to networking and undertaking interviews online.

“Some may not even consider a career change or looking beyond the specialism in which they currently work because they don’t realise they have transferable skills and knowledge. However, with the right guidance and support and, in some cases, some additional training, people will find there are genuine employment opportunities, and alternative career pathways within the automotive sector.”

Whether someone has been made redundant, is currently on the furlough scheme and thinking about a possible career change, or simply interested in refreshing their knowledge or skills, the IMI Employability Week aims to give people the knowledge and confidence they need to enhance their employment options. And because the resources are in different formats, written materials, webinars and video presentations, are easily accessible and digestible.

The IMI also offers a wealth of information about career opportunities in the motor industry through its dedicated website, Autocity.
